Here is a checklist of daily checks for an excavator to ensure safe and efficient operation:

Daily Excavator Inspection Check

1. Visual Walkaround

Check for oil leaks (engine, hydraulic, swing motor)

Inspect hydraulic hoses, fittings, and cylinders for damage or wear

Look for cracks, dents, or other structural damage

Ensure mirrors, lights, and camera (if equipped) are clean and working

 

2. Fluid Levels

Engine oil level

Hydraulic oil level

Coolant level

Fuel level

Windshield washer fluid (if applicable)

 

3. Undercarriage

Check track tension and adjust if needed

Inspect track shoes, rollers, and sprockets for wear or damage

Remove debris stuck in undercarriage or tracks

 

4. Attachments

Inspect bucket, teeth, and quick coupler for cracks or looseness

Check attachment pins for wear or movement

Grease all pivot points and hinges

 

5. Cabin

Clean windows and remove loose items from the floor

Check seatbelt and operator controls

Test horn, wipers, lights, and swing / travel alarm (if any)

Ensure fire extinguisher is present and charged (if any)

 

6. Engine Start-up Check

Listen for abnormal noises

Check for warning lights on dashboard

Observe gauges for oil pressure, temperature, and battery charge

Confirm smooth operation of controls (boom, arm, swing, travel)

 

7. Function Tests

Test boom, arm, bucket, and swing movement

Test travel in both directions

Ensure braking system and travel motors respond properly

 

8. Greasing

Apply grease to all pivot joints and moving parts
